With a commitment from the National Treatment Agency to meet the treatment requirements and needs of some 330,000 problem drug users, the need for effective, evidence-based and collaborative approaches to drug use is essential. Drawing on available evidence, this one-day course considers examples of good practice in the delivery of a world-class drug treatment system. Participants will consider the benefits of a treatment continuum or journey and explore opportunities for promoting drug treatment as a gateway to public services.

This course will be of interest to anyone working in the drug treatment system and of particular relevance to those working within specialist Tier 3 treatment services.

Learning Objectives:

• To raise awareness of different prescribing options in drug treatment
• To assess and minimise risk in relation to substitute prescribing
• To assess the role of psychosocial interventions in enhancing treatment outcomes
• To gain a better understanding of the use of referral pathways and promoting drug treatment as a gateway to public services
