With a commitment from the National Treatment Agency to meet the treatment requirements and needs of some 330,000 problem drug users, the need for effective, evidence-based and collaborative approaches to drug use is essential. Drawing on available evidence, this one-day course considers examples of good practice in the delivery of a world-class drug treatment system. Participants will consider the benefits of a treatment continuum or journey and explore opportunities for promoting drug treatment as a gateway to public services.
This course will be of interest to anyone working in the drug treatment system and of particular relevance to those working within specialist Tier 3 treatment services.
Learning Objectives:
• To raise awareness of different prescribing options in drug treatment• To assess and minimise risk in relation to substitute prescribing• To assess the role of psychosocial interventions in enhancing treatment outcomes• To gain a better understanding of the use of referral pathways and promoting drug treatment as a gateway to public services
